In looking over your KWE website I noted the listing of "K Sites" or Korean War identifiers. The entry for K-53 indicates "airfield not built".  While that is true, the airfield was not built, however the K-53 site is Pyang-Yang-Do or Paeng-Yang-Do or PY-Do to those of us who were assigned to this small island in the Yellow Sea just about on the 38th Parallel about four miles off the North Korean coast.

I was assigned to the United States Air force Security Service (now known as the USAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency) assigned to K-55 (Osan AB) in 1958 and was reassigned to K-53, the island of PY-Do in January 1959. I was there until the USAF decided to close down the operation and turn over to the Korean Air Force. At that time there was also an Army Security Agency unit on the island.

This information may well not be of interest to the history of the Korean War period (1950-1953) but does clarify where K-53 was in 1958-59.
